Exocrine glands and the Chievitz organ of some mouse mutants.

چکیده

Thirteen mutant genes of the mouse have been scanned for the occurrence of anomalies of glands of the head region and of the Chievitz organ. In eight of these (ic/ic; my/my; Ph/Ph; Xt/Xt; Cd/Cd;fi/fi; or/or and ch/ch) such anomalies have been discovered; most of them are absence or reduction in size of a gland, but increases in size or numbers have also been seen. The anomalies are mainly and possibly entirely local consequences of pre-existing abnormalities of other organs and thus different from the systemic effect of the tabby syndrome. But in at least one instance no local cause for an isolated glandular defect has been discovered.

Pathogenesis of ectodermal dysplasia

Ectodermal dysplasias (ED) are characterized by impaired development of organs forming from the embryonic surface ectoderm. Thus, in ED organs like teeth, hair, nails and exocrine glands are hypoplastic or totally missing. The pathogenesis of the defects is starting to be understood thanks to the identification of the responsible gene mutations, and to the advances in developmental biology. Rap...

The salivary gland fluid secretion mechanism.

Fluid secretion by exocrine glands requires the coordinated activity of multiple water and ion transporter and channel proteins. The molecular cloning of many of the transporter molecules involved in fluid secretion has yielded a better understanding of the fluid secretion process. Mouse salivary glands are easily accessible model systems for the study of exocrine gland secretion at the cellula...

Grainyhead-related transcription factor is required for duct maturation in the salivary gland and the kidney of the mouse.

Duct epithelial structure is an essential feature of many internal organs, including exocrine glands and the kidney. The ducts not only mediate fluid transfer but also help to maintain homeostasis. For instance, fluids and solutes are resorbed from or secreted into the primary fluid flowing through the lumen of the ducts in the exocrine glands and kidneys. The molecular mechanism underlying the...

Pseudotumors and mimickers of malignancy of the head and neck pathology.

We are summarizing some of the difficult pitfalls in tumors of the head and neck, which we have encountered in our biopsies referred for consultation as well as from our routine praxis in the last 20 years. Shortly we are presenting the following lesions of head and neck: multifocal sclerosing thyroiditis, mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the thyroid, solid cell nests, Chievitz organ, rhomboid gloss...

The Effect of Retinoic Acid on Seminal Vesicle Epithelial Cell

Purpose: The seminal vesicles are androgen dependent exocrine glands producing protein-rich secretion. The retinoic acid has been implicated as a signaling molecule for the seminal vesicle development. In the present study, the effect of retinoic acid on seminal vesicle epithelial cell of neonatal mouse was investigated. Materials and Methods: Newborn male N-MRI mice were injected intraperiton...
